Clutch is Stuck.......

Even after the Mets first win over the Phillies in 12 years (actually, 284 days) the Met's clutch is still stuck in neutral. Bases loaded in the 1st and 2nd innings, and only 1 run to show for it. The Met's would take the game after the Phillies started resembling the Bad News Bears in the field, kicking the ball around better than Pele. Still, a win is a win they say, and when the win is a win over the Phillies, you take them gift-wrapped or otherwise. Not an impressive start for the blue and orange. Jose Reyes has got to get on base to make things happen, Scott Shoenwies has to stop taking Rodney King style beatings out of the pen, and Aaron Hielman has got to get to the chiropractor to work those kinks out of his neck from whipping his head around so fast to watch the batters ball fly over the fence at such an alarming rate. Rubber game tonight, and the Met's really need to take this series and get some momentum built and start erasing last year's collapse. John Maine is on the mound tonight looking to bring his spring form back and put that horrible start at Atlanta behind him.

Things you can count on in life are very few. The sun rising every morning would be one. The VS channel will show some sporting event that less than 1% of the population with an IQ below 12 won't even watch is another. We can also probably count on Olsen twins throwing up after every meal in '08 as well.

Now, we add another to the list. "I'm older than Moses" Alou and Orlando Hernandez will snap,crackle, and pop some part of their body during a baseball season. Alou bent over to pick up a baseball, and came back up with a hernia that has him out until sometime in May. The Lone Met Fan is more inclined to believe that we won't see Moist until sometime after the All-Star Break. (remember the 2 week injury to his quad last year that kept him out 1/2 the season?)

Hernandez' injury is a whole other issue. The Mets brass would have you believe that his bunion is so painful, they have to alter his delivery by eliminating his signature high leg kick. My opinion is it has nothing to do with a bunion. It's just that at 62 years old, he can no longer lift his leg that high and hope to keep the ductape holding his hamstring together on that type of motion.

Now the Mets have some decisions to make. Do they go with the reserves they have in camp? Angel Pagan has played very well this spring. If Endy Chavez is healthy, he has already proven he can be productive playing everyday. Another long shot is young gun Fernando Martinez could stay north and get some playing time in. While none of those choices will help the LMF sleep soundly at night, the new options I've heard have me down right terrified. I don't want to even type the words, so you can see rumor 1 here. And rumor 2 here. The common identifying link between the 2 options is this.

I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

..........and so is baseball!! Spring Training is in full swing, and the boys in Blue n Orange are once again the favorite to take the East. Santana was obviously a huge pick up for the rotation, taking tons of pressure of off Pedro Martinez. Still a question mark around El Duque, as usual.


Also, problems with Delgado's hip popped up, giving him an excuse for another below avg. year. Yay.

All in all, I like the rotation, even with Pelfrey as the 5th starter. Maine and Perez are in line for solid seasons, and the additon of Schnieder behind the plate will help defensively.

Fun 'N Games

I'm Baaaaack! And so are the Mets, well, at least for now that is.
Mets open up a can on the Braves for a 3 game sweep
at Atlanta. Braves are now sitting 7.5 games back
and hopefully we have ruined their season as they
have done to us so many times before. Lot's of
positives from the sweep.

1. Pelfry winning a game.
2. Pelfry nailing Franceour. (who acted like a little
bitch about it)
3. Beating Hudson AND Smoltz in the same series.
4. Return of the long ball.

Also coming back is Pedro Martinez today against the Reds. Braves and Phils beat on each other for the next 3 games.

Getting Back

The Lone (Relocating) Met Fan is back for a quick update to let you know that Denver traffic sucks as bad as Mota and Heilman. You would think that Mota and Heilman is a fine wine of some repute. Turns out it's the new flavor of Tums I bought at the store after watching them stink it up this past weekend. They are both my daily douche bags for the last 2 days, but unfortunately, I do not have access to my pics to update so Tony L and his love brigade will stay there for a while longer.

2nd Verse, Same As The First

The Mets began the 2nd half of the season much the same way it began....leaving runners on base. Going for some insurance runs late in the game, the Mets had runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out, and failed to score a run. Somewhere Rick Down is chuckling. Ah yes, Mr. Down. Yesterday, hitting coach. Today; scape goat. Minaya had to shake something up and releasing 68 yr old Julio Franco wasn't going to be enough. Of all the coaches, Down was the most fireable. Keith Hernandez had a 6 inning diatribe on hitting coaches, but for time's sake, I'll give you the short version. The hitting coach has little to no influence on hitters. There, that was easy wasn't it Keith?

Any win is a good win, and it's always good to start the 2nd half off positively. El Duque looked decent, Reyes played with hustle, and the Mets still suck at hitting. "Fitty Cent" Milledge made his return last night in what I think is a showcase of his talents for a trade by the end of this month. Milledge hit the ball hard and scored from first on a single (!). Franco would just NOW be rounding 2nd.
