WTF?

Mets lose to the Nationals. This is not a misprint. The Mets lost last night to the Nationals. Oh brother, where to begin? 4 runs against this team with the offense we have should not be enough for the Yankees to beat us, let alone the Nat's. I'm in agreement with Ryan at Always Amazin' on this one.

The really good news is that Ollie did not walk anyone for the 2nd straight start looking dominant at stretches of the game. Wright and Delgado have to start contributing. Can't rely on Alou and Green to keep coming through all the time. (Did I really just type that about Green?)

On to game 2 of the series tonite, Glavine goes for win no. 4 on the year and # 295 for his career.

Mama Said There Would Be Days Like This

We interrupt this normally scheduled blog for an important news bulletin.......

Flushing, NY

-New York Mets officials announced today after the government-mulish ass kicking by the Rockies this afternoon, that the Mike Pelfry that pitched today IS NOT the Mike Pelfry that won the 5th starters job in spring training. Details are sketchy right now, and we are having trouble removing rumor from fact, but it appears as if some deviltry is at play. After his first start this season, manager Willie Randolph appeared to know that something wasn't quite right. "I noticed a small difference after his first start, but thought it may be nervousness or something" Willie said. "Then after today's game, I KNEW for a fact, that this was not the gentleman that we gave the job to in spring training".

Authorities have no leads on the whereabouts of the "real" Mike Pelfry at this time. They also have no idea who the imposter may be, or where he came from. The search has started back in Port St. Lucie, FL where the real Pelfry was last seen in a spring training game in mid-March.

An anonymous tip from someone called the "Lone Met Fan" brought attention to the fact that the only person with enough money to fabricate a living, breathing twin of someone is George Steinbrenner, The New York Yankees owner and known master of the "Evil Empire". Steinbrenner as you may remember has lost 3/5ths of his starting rotation this year to injury so establishing motive at this point will be no problem for the police. While the police were adamant about not labeling Mr. Steinbrenner as a suspect, he is being referred to as a "person of interest" in this ongoing, bizarre case. More details as they come available.

Back Where They Belong Part 2

Mets shake off the atlanta loss tonite with a ho-hum (until the 9th when Ambiorix Burgos entered the game) victory over the Rockies.

Odds and Ends

John Maine's line looked good and he moved to 3-0 on the year. Could be nothing, and I am prone to panic, but he sure had a few hits travel just to the wall. In most other ball parks not named Shea, those are more than likely homeruns.

I don't know what music Burgos comes out too, but it seriously needs to be changed to the Pepto Bismol jingle. Especially the part about upset stomach and diarrhea, which, is exactly what I get every time he comes in to pitch to live batters.

Carlos Delgado finally hit a homerun. 2 good things with this. 1. He's on my fantasy team, and I was seriously considering dropping him. 2. Hopefully this will warm him up and get him on a tear.

David Wright needs a day off. He's looking completely lost at the plate right now. Maybe the warmer weather will warm him up.

Anyway, the braves lost tonight to the 'Fish and the boys are back in 1st place where they blong.

Live Blogging (otherwise known as a running diary)

Howdy folks,

Going to try something new today. Going to try and do a running diary (a nod to the Sports Guy for this) of today's Met's/braves game.

11:50 am Still 10 minutes away from game time (central time). Just realized the game is not on SNY today on my Extra Innings. I now have to suffer through the brave's announcers on TBS for this game.....(By the way, how many sons did Harry Caray have??)

11:55 am Quick thought. Isn't it awsome that the Cardinals suck so far this year? Stricter rules on steroid testing, and Pujols is off to a horrible start. Coincidence?? And why is not more made of the fact that he looks 36 years old and not 26 like he claims?

12:01 pm Coverage starting. Why do the camera's always get so close to the announcers in pre-game?

12:03 pm Commercial? 3 minutes into coverage and we get a VW commercial?

12:10 pm Shot of smoltz warming up. He may be the Dick Clark of baseball players. This guy hasn't aged a bit in 20 years

12:11 pm Glavine's first pitch hit out of the park by kelly johnson (who the hell is kelly johnson?) 1-0 braves.

12:12 pm Tum count: 1

12:13 pm larry jones grounds weakly to 3rd. 4 pitches, 2 outs, 1 home run.

The homerun call is why I HATE listening to brave announcers. One of them let a "WooHoo" slip.

12:14 pm andruw jones pops out for the 3rd out.

12:17 pm Reyes pops out. Out 1.

12:18 pm Weak grounder by La Ducca. 2 down.

12:19 pm Another weak grounder by Beltran. inning over.

*****another note on smoltz. Isn't HGH called the fountain of youth? Hmmmmm....

End of the 1st inning. braves 1 Mets 0 Tums 1

12:22 pm Just wondering why anyone would move out of the way of a thrown Glavine fastball.

12:23 pm Umps just screwed Glavine on a 3rd strike.

12:25 pm braves announce crew jinxed mcann and got him to strikeout seconds after mentioning that he never gives away an at bat. Keep 'em coming guys...

12:25 pm Someone alert Guiness. jeff francouer just took 2 straight pitches!!

12:27 pm Truer words have NEVER been spokern. Chip Caray: "....and of course chipper jones bats from both sides of the plate." Indeed Chip. Indeed.

12:28 pm braves go quietly. Delgado, Wright, and Alou due up.

Actually, Delgado is just "due".

12:33 pm David Wright does not look good so far. *Note to any Met offered a spot in the homerun derby. DECLINE INVITATION.

12:34 pm Another quick inning for smoltz. Someone needs to tell these guys to take a pitch or 2 or smoltz may get through 9 innings on 43 pitches.

End of 2 innings. braves and Tums tied at 1

12:36 pm Would smoltz and Glavine be friends anymore if he hit smoltz in the head with his 68 mph fastball?

12:38 pm smoltz strikes out on a 44mph changeup. (I'm assuming it was a changeup. may have been his 2 seam fastball...)

12:39 pm this kelly johnson is moving up to chipper level of hate....

12:43 pm Nice effort by Alou. renteria with a girlish hit. runners on the corners and here comes larry.

12:44 pm larry jones. sit down. 3rd out. Glavine escapes a jam.

12:49 pm Goodbye no hitter. Green singles to right field.

12:51 pm HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Error by larry at 3rd. 2 on noone out. Glavine to try and bunt them over. Nice play larry....

12:53 Shit. WTF was Glavine doing?

12:55 pm Looks like another wasted scoring opp for the Mets. 2 down. Runners on the corners. Lo Ducca and his hamburger finger to the plate. Not looking optimistic here.

12:56 pm Stolen base by Reyes. Base hit here will score 2. C'mon Paul!!

12:57 pm I know smoltz is not on the mound bitching like a little girl about that last pitch. With that crap they are calling on Glavine, he needs to hush and take some more HGH

12:58 pm Lo Ducca with a WEAK ASS grounder to short. The good news is, Tums just took a 2-1 lead.

End of 3 innings. Need our clutch guys to man up and get some hits.....

1:02 pm Glavine gives up a double to anduw jones. 1 on and 0 out.

1:04 pm Glavine getting squeezed by the home plate ump...

1:04 pm mccann pops out. jeff francouer and his lifetime on-base % of 7 coming up

1:05 pm I would love just once for Glavine to have a meltdown on an ump. Another ridiculous screw job by blue. Does get francouer to fly out to center. 2 down.

1:07 pm Did the rules change? Is the plate a 1 inch block now?

1:08 pm Glavine with another strike out. Swinging of course. No way he's getting a called strike today...

1:14 pm It's painfully obvious that the strike zone for smoltz is not the same as it is for Glavine. Ridiculous.

End of 4. Tums tack on one more and lead 3-1

1:24 pm Easy 5th for Glavine. Bottom of the order due up.

***Side note. Sorry for the 10 minute delay. Had an incident with play-doh and ravioli. Dont ask because I can't explain it...Those of you with children, you will understand.

1:26 pm Shawn Green goes DEEP!! 1-1 game!!

1:28 A television first ladies and gentlemen.....the braves announcers just had a live television orgasm on a decent play in the outfield (decent because the idiot jumped and didn't have too) and smoltz. I guess it's a great play worth celebrating when you gun down a 41 year old Tom Glavine at first base.......sheeesh. These guys would lose it over a bunt single....

1:30 pm Ground rule double for LoDucca. Reyes has to stop at 3rd.

1:33 pm Mets screwed again by the home plate ump. Someone check his pockets and the ledger in Cox's check book.

End of 5 Tums still have a 3-1-1 advantage.

1:45-2:07 pm Um......WOW!! Words cannot describe the 6th inning. Reyes is unbelievable. Mets score 5, get bobby cox thrown out for being the whiney bitch he usually is, and get smoltz and his HGH'd body out of the game.

End of 6 Mets 6 braves 3 Tums 3

2:10 pm Mets put in Ambiorix Burgos. Tums has just scored 2 more......

2:14 pm Schoenweiss just gave up a bomb to tie the game becuase once again, HE WALKED THE LEFTY HE WAS BROUGHT IN TO FACE!! (AGAIN)

7th inning

2:24 pm Shit.

8th inning

2:42 pm SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!

6:24 PM Yes, there is an almost 4 hour gap between posts. Consider that half of my cooling off period.

I can't even write what I think right now because my mother may read this.
I will say this. It's a long season, and there will be more games where the bullpen implodes with the same impact of the Armageddon asteroid, but when it happens against the braves, man.................

Anyway, braves get away with a 9-6 victory over the Mets, but Tums keeps its undefeated streak alive with a 15 to 9 score over the braves....

Back Where They Belong!!

With moving into a new house, working a new job, not to mention STILL unpacking, it's been way too long between posts. Hopefully I can return to a somewhat normal posting schedule now for all 3 (2?) of my readers......Anyway, off we go.....

Starting with yesterday's messy 7-3 loss to the braves ( I refuse to capatilize them.....yes, I'm that immature) Pelfrey's start was up and down. Nice velocity on his pitches, but where is the control he showed in spring? Once again larry "chipper" jones (seriously, this guy is 36 yrs old or so now, MUST we keep calling him chipper?) had a big day against the Mets. He alone may be responsible for 80% of my Tums consuption over the last 12 years. Put me down for 5 during yesterday's game. Credit to Hudson for shutting down a Met offense that had 32 hits in the last 2 games. That and I'm sure he cheats. Nice effort against the braves pen in the 9th but too little too late by then.

Now to today's game. I did not get to see one little bit of it, but it sounds like Reye's was his usual pesky self on the base paths, and Beltran had ANOTHER 4 hit game raising his average to .385. I know it's way to early in the season to start MVP talk, but Beltran looks even better than he did last year. Keep this up and he may be the first Met named MVP. Glad to see that Oliver Perez got himself under control after his 2 2/3 innings of 7 walks and one hit batter in his last outing. His line today: 6 2/3 9 hits (scattered of course) 9 K's and ZERO walks. The happy recap of the ballgame can be found here.

Met's go for the series win tomorrow. john smoltz against Tom Glavine.
LET'S GO METS!!
